Frequently Asked Questions

TAXI'S:

What's so "hot" with the new taxiback lighting?
People spend on average 14 hours in darkness or failing light where things are hard to see out on the road. It was important for us to come up with an even, non glare light source that did not drain the car battery and or that could eat up carbon credits. The lighting makes a huge world of difference to your ad after dark.

Why taxibacks?
Face it people look at what's presented in front of them. Taxitop advertising (as seen in New York) works in cities where there is a high density of foot traffic, but that's not New Zealand.  We are people that travel in cars.

Who has advertised with us in the past:

Telecom Mobile, Vodafone, Xtra, Resene,  Mike Pero Morgages, TV3, TVNZ, Mobil, McDonalds Restaurants, Solid Gold, Radio Live, The Breeze, Sprint, Sanitarium, Frucor, Greenlane Boulevard of Cars, NZ Listener, Freedom Air, Air NZ, Wellington City, Guinness, NZ Police, Pitstop, More FM, SEEK and numerous smaller businesses and assorted shows.

What Taxi companies do we use?
We have good working relationships with a large number of taxi carriers throughout New Zealand and are continuing to gain the services of the more elite companies.  As a guideline on more recent campaigns we have used Green Cabs, North Harbour Taxis, Goldband Taxis, South Auckland Taxis, Express Taxis, and Sail Taxis.  We have 1000 taxis on our books.

How do we know your ads are on the road?
Taxi's unlike other mediums need to be working for drivers/owners to make money.  Their overheads are high.  A taxi generally will operate 14 hours per day and 6 to 7 days per week.  Some have relief drivers and/or operate double shifts dependent on work.  In other words drivers have a vested interest to be on the road.

What about damage to the poster?
Damage is rare but you the client is liable for the cost of new posters.  For larger campaigns we generally run a few extra's in case of damage.  In 10 years of operating we have only had about twelve posters damaged, defaced or lost.  Taxi drivers look after their vehicles.

Can taxi's be targeted to certain areas?
Yes.  We can generally find taxis that will base themselves in a general area but they obviously will be given fares that go outside those areas.

PRIVATE Taxibacks:

Are the taxibacks approved by the NZ Transport Agency (prev. LTSA then LTNZ)?
The taxibacks have been on taxis for over ten years and the lighting we have have worked on since 2002 in conjunction with the then LTSA.  The lighting improvement falls in line with current NZTA lighting guidelines and we have their endorsement of this. The lighting innovation has commenced in August 2008. You will still be required to abide by all other basic lighting regulations.

Is my vehicle suitable for a taxiback?

We can fit to 90% of all vehicles including cars and vans.  Ask us if your vehicle suits.

Will my vehicle suffer any damage from fitting or removing the taxiback?
There is minimal impact on your vehicle and none of the processes to fit or remove will harm any surface or panel.  See fitting below.

Are the taxibacks heavy?
They weigh approx 1.5kg and should have no impact on your boot opening/closing.

What needs to be done to fit the taxiback?
The taxibacks are taped to the vehicle using 3M VHB (very high bond) tape.  This does not harm the paintwork and is easily removed. If the taxiback fitting covers your numberplate then we will move the numberplate to your bumper, fit with an approved light and tape in place as above.  If your reverse lights are obstructed we will fit an alternative reverse light VHB taped to an area below the rear bumper.

What happens in the case of damage to the taxiback and/or lighting?
The safety and wellbeing of the taxiback and associated lighting is your responsibility. You will need to advise your insurance company that you are having an advertising unit attached to your car.  Replacement cost of the taxiback is $385 plus gst.  We require the taxiback to be in a reasonable wear and tear condition at the end of the lease period otherwise a repair replacement fee may be charged.

Will the taxiback internal lighting drain my battery?
The lighting will draw about 0.5 Amps from your vehicle's power supply. It's the equivalent of running one 6Watt bulb on your battery.  Yu may choose to wire your taxiback lights on a separate timer to allow the flexibility of leaving the sign on in a carpark after dark or perhaps at a client function.  Worth a thought.

Can I change my sign at any time?
Yes it is easy to fit another advert/sign at your convenience.  You can do it in minutes at home or work. If you prefer we can change the sign at a nominal cost.

Are the taxibacks removeable?
Not easily, at this stage (but we are working on it).  If you require the taxiback to be removed it can be unscrewed from the mounting brackets and the lighting disconnected.  This is easy to do but will leave the brackets visible on your vehicle.

How do I pay for the taxibacks?
You have the choice of an automatic debit from your bank account or if you choose to pay for the entire lease up front then you will receive a 10% discount off the lease cost.
